This game today from the
Melody Amber rapid tournament began innocently enough with 6.Bc4 in the Scheveningen/Najdorf. However, on move 14,
Vassily Ivanchuk uncorked a stunning queen sacrifice against
Sergey Karjakin and won in the endgame. Some of us might have considered Nxe6 or Bxe6, but not Qxe6! I have heard stories over the years that Ivanchuk is crazy. If so, this game adds credibility to the theory that
there is a fine line between insanity and brilliance.
